Walk into 2010 having the answers you need on hot topics for 2010 and be the best HR representative you can be. Our panel of distinguished Attorneys will include Benton Toups with Hedrick, Gardner, Will Oden with Ward and Smith, P.A. and Norwood Blanchard with Cranfill, Sumner & Hartzog. Our speakers will share their knowledge with us and open up the floor for questions, answers and discussions with members on such topics as the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) and notable cases of 2009.

Description: Paula Harvey will be speaking on Developing a Sound HR Metrics System. Mrs. Harvey is the President of her Human Resources consulting company, K&P Consulting. She has worked for over 20 years as a Human Resources Generalist. She is an active member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) having served as the 2008 NC SHRM State Conference Chair and CASHRM Past-President and serving as NC SHRM Director-Elect and President Union County HR Association. She was awarded the 2004 NC SHRM HR Professional of the Year and the 2009 York County, SC HR Professional of the Year. Attendees will learn: - The importance of demonstrating HR’s value to the organization - Ways to avoid pitfalls in HR metric systems - How to align HR programs with business needs - Distinguish between different types of data and measures - Ways to communicate HR Metrics to the organization

Description: REDUCING THE THREAT OF EMPLOYMENT CLAIMS: PROTECTIVE PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES Employment claims are won or lost before the hiring or firing decisions are made. The care and preparation that underlie daily employment practices- policies, procedures, and forms that are used regularly and automatically- are usually what make the difference between liability, on one hand, and claim avoidance or a successful defense, on the other. This presentation is thus less about employment "laws" than about the development of practices, procedures, forms and other tools for maintaining employer protection in human resources management, with a focus on elements in the hiring process.
